2ND Quarter_Week 2-3_Activity 2

Activity 3

Directions: Give an example situation for each of the given speech styles below.

1. Intimate

In grade 10, the resurfacing memories of my childhood abuse were rampant. I kept getting random episodes. I cannot control when it would hit me, and one time, it happened when I was at school. I started crying as I enter the room. I started crying as I enter the room. I decided to cry in a corner where nobody can see me. Suddenly, a friend of mine sat beside me. I don’t want to speak and explain why I was crying. As if he understood what I want, he just sat there silently without saying anything. His presence alone gave me the comfort that a million words couldn’t give. After my episode, he gave me a pat on the back and didn’t pressure me to tell him what was wrong. I was thankful for that.

2. Casual

As I was lounging around my house, an old friend suddenly messaged me. We haven’t met in 4 years since elementary, so I was shocked by his message. His message was so sudden that I just replied to him in a heartbeat. After that, we talked for hours as if those 4 years didn’t pass. We caught up with each other’s lives. After that, we continued chatting with each other every once in a while.

3. Frozen

During the 3rd quarter in grade 10, Mrs. Cada instructed us to create a living gallery about El Filibusterismo as a batch. She told us to read the book or its summary to know the story. After that, she gave us a few weeks before the deadline.

4. Consultative

When the pandemic hit, I started truly thinking of my future career. I have already decided that I would become a seafarer and enter MAAP before that contemplation. However, I still do not have a second choice when I fail the entrance exam. I went to my sister and her boyfriend (both are civil engineering graduates) to ask about the branches of engineering that I could take. After a long discussion, we decided that I am suited for Geodetic Engineering since it does not have a stationary lifestyle.

5. Formal

In grade 10, Ma’am Aiza (my ICT teacher) told us that there are additional points for students who will explain how to do networking at the next meeting. With this incentive in mind, I researched carefully about the said topic. I watched YouTube videos filled with tutorials the night before the ICT class. After this, I opened websites to test my knowledge of networking and passed them accordingly. The next day, Ma’am Aiza asked for a volunteer, and I immediately raised my hand. I then proceeded to explain the lesson smoothly to my classmates. With that, I easily got additional points in ICT.
