2ND_Quarter_Week 4_Performance Task: Effective Speech Writing

“Stay Away From Me”

By Celine Joy C. Aguilar

Please, repeat after me: “Stay away from me!!” People in the back, I cannot hear you. Say it louder: “Stay away from me!”

Now everybody, please keep this line in mind because it is imperative for the speech I am about to make.

Currently, a total of 2.23 million people have died due to the pandemic of the Corona Virus. That is insane because this virus has only been around for a year!

You may ask me: “But CJ, isn’t there already a vaccine?” Well, there is, but the question is: “can you afford it?” Let’s be real here, with the relationship of supply and demand, the price of vaccines will skyrocket by the time it gets released. Sure, some of you may be able to afford it, but not everyone is as privileged as you. So why do we not opt for prevention rather than cure?

They say that prevention is better than cure and the truth is not far from it. I would even go far and say that it should be prioritized above everything else. That is how important it is.

Now comes the follow-up question: “CJ, how can we do this?” It is simple actually, remember the line that I told you earlier? The one with the aggressive and angst vibes? That is how.

Let us not underestimate the power of social distancing. Staying 6 feet apart from people when you go out can do wonders to prevent the spreading of this disease. It is also important to note that going to crowded areas or meeting up with your friends is a big no-no during this pandemic. Treat everyone as if they have the disease, avoid them. It may sound like hell for extroverted people, but trust me on this.

For instance, if your friend or someone you know asked you to go to a social gathering, please, for the sake of God, tell them: “Stay away from me!” If you miss someone, there is technology at your own disposal, use it. Go do video calls, zoom meetings, or even just a simple chat. Do everything just to stay connected, but please do not go outside unless it is necessary. People are dying.

Also, do not forget your face mask. Wear it, and when you do, do it properly. It is not a chin mask nor a forehead accessory, so why wear them like that? It is not like your chin and forehead could breathe. I see so many people wear it so ridiculously, and honestly, it is frustrating. In addition, please remember that face masks should both cover the nose and the mouth area because that is where the virus can enter your body. Secure it in your chin and fit them snugly against the side of your face with loops or strings in your ear so that no gaps will be exposed. If your mask is loose or too tight, find a different type or brand. Adapt, overcome, and do not make excuses that you cannot wear a mask because of this and that—no, just no.

Lastly, know the importance of sanitizing. Wash your hands properly with soap. Make sure to lather them up and scrub them as if you have touched the most disgusting thing in the world for about more than 20 seconds. If you are outside and you do not have access to soap, alcohol would do just fine. Make sure that it is 60% alcohol and it is not the kind that you drink. Guys, isopropyl and ethyl alcohols are the ones I’m talking about. Also, do not shower yourself with alcohol when you are at home. That is disgusting. You have the necessary sanitizing materials at home so use them. Alcohols are only essential when you go outside then touch things or when you are entering a premise. It is not a substitute for showering, ok?

In summary, please always remember to keep your distance from people, wear a face mask, and sanitize yourself when going in and out of your house. If possible, please just do not go outside at all. Let your parents do the groceries. If you want to buy stuff, online shopping is an option.

People, we do not have the luxury to fool around as the lives of everyone around us is on the line. They may be your worst enemy, closest friends, or even the random guy you just casually waved at in the store. It does not matter who, because this virus does not discriminate. It can and will attack anybody. So once again, let’s say the line: “Stay away from me!!”
